Manchester Grand Community Iftar: Strategic Impact & Evaluation Report
Theme: "Unity & Harmony" 21 Feb 2026
Executive Summary
The annual community Iftar hosted by ESCA-UK was a landmark strategic event, attended by over 340 participants. It successfully merged cultural heritage with professional community advocacy and local economic engagement. The event was bolstered by a £500 grant from the Spirit of Manchester Fund Manchester Community Central, which supported the "Bringing Communities Together" initiative. This gathering also marked the public unveiling of "Strategic Roadmap 2026," a vision previously shared with over 60 official entities.
Statistical Precision & Methodology
To ensure high-quality data for stakeholders, the evaluation focused on the target audience (adults and youth aged 12+) capable of providing institutional feedback:
Total Attendance: 344.
Evaluation Target Group: 265 participants (excluding 79 children under 12).
Response Volume: 88 completed surveys (57 digital + 31 physical).
Response Rate: 33.2% (recalculated from 88/265).
External Commendations: 23 messages/calls of appreciation from external partners.
High-Level Civic Engagement
A major highlight was the participation of four Manchester city councillors: Cllr Ahmed Ali, Cllr Jill Lovecy, Cllr Abdigafar Muse, and Cllr Esha Mumtaz. The councillors affirmed their commitment to ESCA-UK’s roadmap and took an active role in presenting honorary plaques and "Future Leaders" certificates to youth volunteers.
The Role of Sudanese Women: Leadership & Organisation
Sudanese women served as the backbone of this event, demonstrating the following:
Organisation: Managing the Service Committee and overseeing the authentic Sudanese buffet.
Diplomatic Representation: A powerful English-language speech by volunteer Safaa Musa, showcasing the association’s professional image.
Professional Leadership: Active participation in strategic pillars, specifically in health and education, is essential for fostering community development and enhancing the overall well-being of the Sudanese diaspora.
Innovative Awareness: The Kahoot Interactive Challenge
In a pioneering move to blend entertainment with knowledge, the Iftar featured a digital competition via Kahoot technology. This was used as a strategic tool for legal and community awareness, engaging participants across:
Sudanese Heritage: History and geography to strengthen cultural identity.
Local Citizenship: Knowledge of Manchester’s landmarks and essential public services.
Legal Safeguarding: Disseminating vital information on child protection laws in the UK.
The session engaged the younger generation effectively, bridging the gap between cultural tradition and contemporary legal awareness, and concluded with honouring the top winners with honorary awards.
Participating Entities & Synergy
Sudanese Bodies: Sudanese Community in Greater Manchester, Fur, Masalit, Beri, and Arrenga Community Associations, Sudanese Club, Sudanese School, and the Sudanese community from Oldham and Bolton.
Local Business Solidarity: Marsa Café, Sudanese House Café, Blue Nile Café, Casablanca Restaurant, Peace & Love Barber Shop, Abu Mazen Mini Market, and HOUD Boutique.
International Partners: Turkish Community (Dialogue Society), Marhaba Eritrean Association, and Um Ayman Barakah Ethiopian Association.

Strategic Professional Commitments
Key professionals committed to the roadmap’s specialised pillars:
Health: Consultants Dr Salah Abu Dabib and Dr Fatima Abu Mohammed.
Education: Mrs Amani Al-Shafie (Sudanese School).
Legacy: The grandson of Dr Abu Amna accepted the honorary plaque, symbolising the passing of the torch.

A Sincere Vote of Thanks.
Success is a collective journey, and ESCA-UK wishes to extend its warmest thanks to everyone who made this evening possible:
We deeply appreciate the presence of our local councillors and community leaders among our distinguished guests. Your presence gave our roadmap the official recognition it deserves.
· To Our Community Members & Families: Thank you to every family who attended, some travelling from London, Liverpool, and Birmingham. Your presence turned a hall into a home. A special thank you to our mothers and sisters for their unparalleled hospitality and for the love poured into every dish.
· To Our Partners & Supporters: To Manchester Community Central, thank you for the grant from the Spirit of Manchester Fund. For local businesses and international associations (Turkish, Eritrean, and Ethiopian), your solidarity is the true definition of "unity and harmony".
· To Our Youth & Volunteers: You are the engine of this association. To the 30 volunteers who gave 180 hours of their time and our youth who handled technology and reception with such grace, you are indeed the leaders of tomorrow.
