Awareness Workshop

Location: White City community Centre – London Date: 22 February 2025 Topic: The dangers of hate speech and its impact on families and individuals

Objective: To raise awareness among young people about the risks of hate speech and its negative effects on individuals, families, and the community.

Why ESCA Launched This Workshop and Its Importance?

ESCA initiated this workshop in response to the growing threat that hate speech poses within society. (Hate speech) is not merely offensive language it has serious and far-reaching consequences. It can lead to exploitation, physical violence, and social tension, while also contributing to socio-economic disparity and undermining peace within communities. Given that many of ESCA’s members are immigrants, the organization recognized the urgency of promoting social awareness. Hate speech threatens the fabric of diverse societies, making it essential to educate communities and reinforce peaceful coexistence.

Association’s Goals & Programs Presentation

  • The association’s representative gave a clear presentation covering:

  • Goals: The main objectives the association aims to achieve, including awareness, community engagement, and youth empowerment.

  • Programs: A range of awareness, cultural, and support programs for young people.

  • How to join: The steps and procedures required to become a member of the association.

    Workshop Attendance:

    Number of attendees: Approximately 77 people

    Target audience: Families and young people under the age of 25

The Importance of the Workshop?

  • Hate Speech in around our area had warring the family in sudan.

  • Rise in Violence and Discrimination Individuals, especially those from religious or ethnic minority backgrounds, are increasingly targeted by hate-motivated acts—ranging from verbal abuse to physical assault.

  • Socio-Economic Impact Hate speech can result in the marginalization of certain groups, limiting their access to employment, housing, and public services.

  • This further deepens existing social and economic inequalities.

  • Social Division and Polarization: Hate speech fosters division and reinforces an “us vs. them” mentality. It breaks down community cohesion, weakens trust among groups, and threatens national unity.

Key discussion:

An important discussion took place among the youth regarding priorities for the upcoming period, focusing on:

A-Maintaining good moral conduct

B-Improving academic performance among students

One of the association members presented a photographic overview of how to take pictures and the importance of protecting personal data Explaining the laws related to the GDPR data protection law Any photos even at events if a person can be identified from a photograph.

Workshop Outcomes

New members joined: Several attendees mostly youth joined the association following the session.

Volunteering interest: A few participants expressed a desire to volunteer and support the association’s activities.

Recommendations:

Continue organizing awareness workshops targeting youth.

Focus on interactive activities that promote dialogue, tolerance, and positive values.

Encourage and support youth volunteer initiatives and integrate them into the association’s programs.

Conclusion:

By launching this workshop, ESCA seeks to foster a more informed, compassionate, and inclusive society. The initiative serves as a platform for discussion, learning, and youth engagement to combat hate speech and promote harmony across diverse communities
