Introduction

The Eastern Sudan Communities Association – Manchester Branch organized the "Family and Community Gathering" event at Platt Fields Park in Manchester to enhance social integration, support family cohesion, and preserve the cultural heritage of Eastern Sudan. This event is a continuation of an annual tradition established by the association that combines the celebration of Eid and the strengthening of community bonds in an atmosphere of love and diversity.

Opening Speech

Mr. Mohammed Yousif Abdelsalam opened the gathering with a welcoming speech, thanking the attendees and participants for their support. He praised the association's vital role in creating inclusive community spaces that significantly contribute to building a cohesive and understanding society within the United Kingdom.

Gathering Objectives

  1. Promote Social Integration: Through positive and engaging interaction between families and the wider local community.

  2. Revive Cultural Heritage: Highlighting the rich traditions of Eastern Sudan through authentic folk arts and music.

  3. Empower Youth and Children: Providing a supportive platform for them to participate and express themselves with confidence.

  4. Encourage Volunteerism: Fostering volunteer work and community leadership from within the association's membership.

Activities and Events

1. Cultural and Artistic Performances

The youth presented musical performances and traditional dances from the heritage of Eastern Sudan. These performances beautifully reflected the diversity of our cultural identity and the spirit of belonging and were met with excellent interaction and appreciation from the attendees.

2. Children's Entertainment Activities

Children enjoyed a comprehensive entertainment program that included group games, face painting, and interactive competitions aimed at fostering creativity and a spirit of cooperation. Crucially, they were provided access to a microphone to freely express their ideas, encouraging self-confidence and moral courage. At the end of the day, gifts and prizes were distributed to 55 children under the age of ten, creating an atmosphere of joy and family interaction.

3. Football Team Launch

As part of the association's dedication to youth development, the Sports Committee launched an initiative to establish a youth football team, inviting parents to register their children. Mr. Mubarak Yassin, a member of the Sports Committee, explained that the project meets family and community priorities by involving youth in sports activities that enhance physical and mental health while developing a spirit of discipline and self-confidence. He affirmed that football represents a space for community convergence, enhancing cultural integration and understanding.

Future Outlook

The association seeks to establish a permanent sports club that provides a safe, organized environment and facilitates access to regular training programs. This initiative is starting with the 18–24 age group, with future plans to expand participation to those under 18 under the supervision of certified coaches.

  1. Sudanese families and individuals currently residing in Greater Manchester.

  2. Members of the local British community who are interested in experiencing and celebrating Sudanese culture and its diversity.

The Distinguishing Feature of ESCA

The association is a unique entity due to its grassroots community approach and its strong focus on the cultural and social identity of Eastern Sudan. ESCA is currently working diligently to establish a permanent headquarters to host continuous training, cultural, and youth activities.

Funding and Organizational Commitment

The gathering was 100% community-funded through the monthly contributions of ESCA members (families and individuals). The event was executed with full commitment to charitable standards in the United Kingdom, including strict adherence to official registration, event insurance, and public safety requirements.

The “Family and Community Gathering” truly embodies the vision of the Eastern Sudan Communities Association in building a cohesive and integrated community that celebrates heritage, culture, and diversity. The attendance significantly exceeded expectations, confirming a growing confidence in the association's programs.
